Terms of use

Version 2026-10-13

Who provides Burnbase

Burnbase is provided by Captain Jack's App Factory in the Netherlands, registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42136234. In these terms "we" means that provider. Our details, and a link to our registered address on the KvK register, are on the About page. You can reach us through the contact page.

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using the app at burnbase.org. The demo at burnbase.org/demo keeps everything in your own browser and needs no account; these terms apply to the demo only where they say so. The privacy notice explains what Burnbase stores and why.

What Burnbase is

Burnbase is a tool for organising a camp, a crew or a trip: who is coming, who does which shift, what everyone eats, what it costs and who has paid. It helps people organise themselves. We do not run, check or supervise the camps, burns and events on Burnbase, or the people who lead them.

Your account

You sign in with Tonomy ID, which proves your email address to Burnbase. Your first sign-in creates your account. You need to be at least 16 to hold one. If you are 16 or 17, make sure a parent or guardian knows you use Burnbase. Camps and content marked as for adults are for people aged 18 or older.

Children at a camp or event are the responsibility of their parents or guardians and of the people running that camp or event, not of Burnbase.

Your account is yours alone. Keep access to it to yourself, and tell us through the contact page if you think someone else has used it.

You can stop using Burnbase at any time. Ask through the contact page and we delete your account and what we hold about you, except what we must keep by law or what a camp keeps as its record of money that moved, which the privacy notice describes.

Camps, leads and members

A camp on Burnbase is run by its leads. Leads decide which modules the camp uses, what the camp asks of the people who join, and who may join. Leads see more of a member's profile than other members do; the privacy notice explains exactly who sees what.

If you join a camp, what you enter about yourself stays yours, and you choose how much of it the camp can see where Burnbase offers a choice. You can leave a camp at any time from the app. A camp's leads can remove you from the camp; that is their decision, not ours, and your account stays.

A burn or festival on Burnbase has an organising camp, run by the people who founded it. The rules for leads below apply to them too, for the camps and people at their burn.

Rules for leads

If you lead a camp, you are responsible for how your camp uses what its members share with it. These rules apply to you.

Use members' details only to run the camp. Do not copy them into other tools, group chats or spreadsheets, and do not pass them on to anyone outside the camp.

Use health, disability, allergy and emergency details only where they are needed for someone's safety, and delete any copy you made when the member leaves or the season ends.

Invite only people who would want to be invited. An invitation emails them, and they can decline and ask never to be contacted again.

Never enter someone else's health, disability, sexuality or belief details. Add someone as an emergency contact only with their knowledge.

If you lose members' details, or someone outside the camp gets them, tell us within 24 hours through the contact page, so that we can meet our own legal deadline to report it.

If a member asks you to correct or remove something about them, or asks what the camp holds, pass the request on to us or deal with it yourself. If you break these rules, we may limit or end your access to the camp's data.

What you may not do

Do not use Burnbase to break the law, to harass, threaten or deceive anyone, or to publish content you have no right to publish. Do not enter another person's details into Burnbase unless you are entitled to, and never their health, sexuality or similar sensitive details on their behalf.

Do not try to get at data you are not meant to see, to interfere with the service, to copy it by automated means, or to send invitations or messages in bulk to people who did not ask for them.

Reports and moderation

Content that breaks these terms or the law is not allowed on Burnbase. That includes content that harasses, threatens or exposes someone, content that is illegal, and material you have no right to publish.

To report something, write to us through the contact page. Tell us what it is, where it is on Burnbase, and why it breaks these terms or the law. Copyright complaints are reported the same way.

We look at every report, and a person makes the decision. We may remove the content, or limit, suspend or close the account behind it. If we do, we tell the account holder what we did and why, and how to ask us to look again, unless the law stops us. If you think we got it wrong, write to us through the contact page and a person looks at it again.

Safety and health information

Diet, allergies, disability, emergency contacts and similar details on Burnbase are typed in by members themselves. They may be incomplete or out of date, and they are not medical advice. Always ask the person directly before you rely on them for anyone's safety.

Camps, events, food, rides and the safety of everyone who takes part, children included, are the responsibility of the people who run and attend them. Burnbase does not check leads, camps or events.

Rides

Burnbase only helps people find a lift. We are not a carrier, an insurer or the organiser of any journey. A driver needs a valid licence and insurance. Sharing the cost of a ride is fine; making a profit from it is not. We will never take a fee on rides.

Your content

What you enter into Burnbase stays yours. You give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to store it, show it to the people your camp's settings and your own choices allow, and send the emails the app sends on your camp's behalf. We use it only to run and show Burnbase. The permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies that remain in our backups until those backups are replaced.

You confirm that you have the right to what you add, photos included. If a photo shows other people, ask them first.

A camp's shared records, such as its shifts, its program and its ledger, belong to the camp. If you leave, the camp keeps them; your personal profile leaves with you.

Money

Burnbase records who should pay whom and who has paid. Today no money moves through Burnbase: payments happen between people, by bank transfer or another method the camp set up, and Burnbase only keeps the record. Burnbase is not a bank, does not hold anyone's money and does not guarantee that anyone pays. A camp's leads, not Burnbase, decide what the camp asks for and deal with refunds and disagreements about money.

When Burnbase starts processing payments, the platform fee is one percent of what a camp collects through it, shown before anyone pays. It is zero at the burns Captain Jack attends. The fee and how it is charged are set out on the pricing page and will be stated in these terms before the first payment is taken.

Availability and changes to Burnbase

We work to keep Burnbase running and your data safe, but we cannot promise it is always available. We may change, add or withdraw features. If we withdraw something your camp depends on, or stop the service, we give notice and a way to take your data with you. Your legal rights are not affected.

Liability

Burnbase is free to use today. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss that follows from the service being unavailable, from data you or your camp entered, or from decisions a camp takes. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury, for intent or gross negligence, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Suspension and closing an account

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms or the law. Unless the law stops us, we tell the account holder first and say why, and they can ask us to look again. We act without notice only where there is a serious reason, such as a risk to someone's safety, illegal content, or abuse of Burnbase. If we close the service for everyone, we give reasonable notice.

Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version date. The version shown at burnbase.org/terms is the one in force, and earlier versions are available on request through the contact page. When the terms change in a way that matters to you, you are asked to agree to the new version before you continue, and we keep a record of which version you agreed to and when. If you do not agree, you can stop using Burnbase and ask us to delete your account.

Burnbase is independent

Burnbase is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Burning Man Project.

Law and disputes

Dutch law applies to these terms. If you are a consumer in the EU, the law of your country that protects you still applies. If we disagree about something, write to us first through the contact page; we will try to sort it out. Disputes that cannot be sorted out go to the competent court in the Netherlands, or to the court of your own country where the law gives you that right. If you live in the Netherlands, you can also get free advice from ConsuWijzer.

Language

These terms are written in English. If we publish them in another language, the English version is the one that applies.
